John Smith Releases Single “Burden of the Road,” Immediately Playlisted

On October 4, 2019 John Smith released a single “Burden of the Road,” which quickly gained attention among Spotify’s editorial playlists, including first song placement on Fresh Folk (564K followers) and inclusion on the Easy playlist (308K followers). The single also earned him the cover of Amazon’s Fresh Folk & Americana playlist and the cover of TIDAL’s Celtic Roots playlist. He shares:

“I began writing this song in a Motel 6 in Los Angeles, after a heavy stint on the road away from family and friends, focused on the tour, losing focus on my own well-being… of course I got a little homesick. The song is not a complaint, but a meditation and a lament that we can’t have everything we need all at once. You have to work for the greener grass, wherever you are. I always lived to be on the road, but lately half of me longs to be at home, with my family; that’s what this song is about.” – John Smith
