Congratulations, Kyshona! Kickstarter Achieved!

We are over the moon to share that Kyshona reached and exceeded her Kickstarter goal of $25K! We’re so happy to see this important record getting this early support and love from her fans and community. Here is a note from Kyshona about the Kickstarter and how things went in the studio in Memphis…

Y’all!! I can’t believe what you have done in the last 2 days!!! You’ve thrown up the bat signal and pulled in over 8K in a matter of hours. I AM SHOOK! I’ll be honest, I had a mini breakdown Monday morning because I just didn’t see a way to pull in 10K in mere days. Oh me of little faith…

 As I’m typing this we have 330 backers and have officially REACHED THE GOAL!  My hands are shaking with gratitude right now. We're actually pulling this off y’all!

I’ve been traveling through space and time in my dreams. I’ve been back in Nashville for 36 hours but when I’ve closed my eyes to sleep I’m right back in Southern Grooves Studio.

I have a song on the album called “Right Back Where I Started From”. It feels even more like a classic now that we have added horns (HORNS!) and keys. That’s the melody I’ve been waking up singing the past 2 mornings. It may take a couple more days for my heart and mind to settle back in my body so I can start dreaming about falling off cliffs and having to feed 500 people with 2 pies again.

* But I digress…*

I’m already working on the next phase of this Legacy Project which is leading songwriting groups in the communities we tour through. The outline of this programming has become more clear as each song has been fleshed out more and more. There are a few songs on the album that I think will be great conversation starters for us in these settings.

Just a few of the title tracks:

“What’s In a Name” - I wrote this with Aaron Lee Tasjan. A fellow member of the name butchered society. Ha!

“Covered” - wrote this sweet message with Jess Nolan (Katie Pruitt/Jenny Lewis) as a reminder that we are never alone.

“Comin’ Out Swingin’” - wrote this with my brother, Kelvin, for our cousin Crystal

We have just a few finishing touches to put on this record, but we left Memphis with so much more than we thought. I couldn’t be happier.

It’s like we just made a rich gumbo this week. Rachael and I are stepping away from the album for a tiny bit to let all the flavors settle in and give our brains some distance. Then we’ll see what’s left in the seasoning cabinet to add to the pot before we dish this baby out.

I don’t know why I made the reference. I’ve never made gumbo in my life. I barely cook

I’m about to throw some clothes in a suitcase and pack the van with gear and merch. I’m headed to Elkin, NC to play The Martha Bassett Show tomorrow evening. Maybe we’ll get some new backers to help us reach that second goal!

Love and respect the mess out of every one or you!

xo, K
