Kyshona Premieres New Video for Out Loud—Featured in NYTimes

Kyshona has a new video out for her latest single Out Loud, an anthem of encouragement to speak your truth.

The song and video recently caught the attention of The New York Times! Check out the feature here.

Here are Kyshona’s words on the making of this song and video…

When Maureen, Nickie and I went in to record this song, I told them to sing it as if we were the 3 wise women (Aunties, if you will) speaking gently to a loved one, quietly pushing them into their truth. I often like to think that my own ancestors gather ‘round me in my moments of doubt and gently whisper encouragements in my ear, pushing me towards my better self. When thinking of the concept for the video, I wanted to capture this feeling.

I reconnected with artist Molly Powers to help me flesh out this idea. If you’ve been with me from the beginning and you have my first Kyshona Branch t-shirts, then you have a Molly Powers design! I sporadically stalk Molly on instagram to see what she’s up to creatively and I noticed she was doing animation. Of COURSE I reached out to her to talk about this music video concept. Molly created and designed a beautiful canvas (as seen on Spotify) and we called on veteran animator Katie Callahan to execute the full video. TALK ABOUT AN EPIC COLLABORATION! Katie took Molly’s artistic style and built a storyboard to bring my vision to life.

When you watch this video I hope you will think of the people that have quietly encouraged you to use your voice to the fullest. I also hope you think of who you want to encourage to do the same.

It’s been super amazing to hear Out Loud being played on Lightning 100, WMOT, WPLN and Folk Alley! Nothing brings me more joy than having friends send me video snippets of their radio screens when the song comes up. I’ve got a great team of folks supporting me out there on the road and also here at home. For that I am eternally grateful.

Thank you all so much for spinning this musical message and sharing it with your friends and families. I hope you’ll help me share this visual message as well.
