A note from Kyshona about these new songs…

Something that I AM truly grateful for is that "past me" set myself up for a summer of music releases that are speaking to the very thing I need encouragement for at this moment. In case you missed it, I released a single on June 21st called Rise the Tide. I recorded this at The Sanctuary in Nashville in one day with Nickie, Maureen and my Takamine 12 string. Once we got the vocals feeling good, I sent the track to my friend Nick Buda so that he could lay down some tribal drums. In a nutshell: he kilt that. The process of recording "Rise the Tide" mirrors the quote that inspired this song to be written: "Rising tides lifts all ships". When we let go and invite others in, it's amazing the heights that we all can reach together.

I have another single coming out on July 22nd called Do What Feeds Your Soul. I wrote it with my friend Shannon LaBrie after one of her infamous garden dinner parties. At the end of a conversation about how to choose the gigs we say yes to, we all agreed that you must "do what feeds your soul". Friend and bassist, Ryan Madora, then yelled with great passion, "We do it because we must!".

And a song was born.

Shannon came to my house a few weeks later with the hook and we, literally, only sang things that brought us joy while recording this from my apartment office nook. We bleeped, we blooped, sang, laughed, clapped, pretended to beatbox.... every sound on this track is us in the throws of actual play. THEN we sent it off to Ryan Madora and gave her the same instructions.... just play. Don't think about rules, just play what feels good on the bass.

I have to say, this was the strangest and MOST fun recording and writing experience for Shannon and I. We took our demo to my good friend Aaron Shafer-Haiss and he added drums and percussion to settle the track a bit. I really hope you hear (and feel) the act of play that we incorporated throughout this entire track. I hope you carry it with you as a reminder to never take yourself too seriously. Remember to laugh and play while living in your purpose and passion. We only get this one life to smile, belly laugh, get messy and explore while you're living it.

When release day arrives you can be among the firsts to hear it. You can pre-save our duet Do What Feeds Your Soul and be the first to get notified when the song drops. Turn it up loud and dance your heart out!

xo,
K
